Travelling to Angkor Wat in a wheelchair requires a little more planning than a standard tour, but it is absolutely possible to have a rewarding and memorable experience. This private half-day tour visits three of the most famous temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park: Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm. Each offers a very different experience, giving you an excellent introduction to the temples of Angkor in a single tour.
The tour has been designed for wheelchair users and travellers with limited mobility, giving you the flexibility to explore at your own pace with private transport and optional wheelchair assistance. Explore Angkor with a knowledgeable, English-speaking licensed guide who brings the temples to life. Gain deeper insight into the history, symbolism, and hidden details of Angkor Wat at sunrise, while navigating the best viewpoints and avoiding the crowds for a more rewarding experience.
For guests needing mobility assistance, having a guide on hand also means the driver can stay with the vehicle rather than needing to park and walk in, making getting around the temples quicker and smoother.
Our guides adapt the route and pace for full accessibility. For details on how our licensed guides navigate standard, full-coverage temple routes, check out our standard Angkor Wat Sunrise Tour
Every tour is private, allowing the itinerary to be adjusted around your mobility requirements and the pace that is most comfortable for you.
A typical sunrise tour includes:
If you would prefer a later start or would like to visit different temples, the itinerary can be customised.
If you or members of your group do not require mobility assistance, see our standard Angkor Wat Sunrise Tour for our classic small-group or private itineraries.
Watch the sky change from a peaceful vantage point, away from the crowds (at your own discretion)
Travel through Angkor Thom and witness the stone faces of Bayon, a temple built in the 12th century. Bayon is known for its smiling stone faces, cherished by locals and sought after by travelers.
Also known as the Tomb Raider Temple, Ta Prohm is famous for its giant tree roots and atmospheric ruins. This is our personal favorite temple to show visitors.
Many people are surprised to learn that yes, much of Angkor Archaeological Park can be explored by wheelchair or mobility scooter, although accessibility varies between temples and certain areas are easier to access than others.
The main pathways around Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm can all be visited by wheelchair or scooter, allowing you to experience some of Cambodia’s most iconic temples. However, some areas, including steep staircases, narrow passages and upper levels, are not accessible by either.
Every tour is private, so there’s no need to keep pace with a group, and we take breaks whenever needed. The route and pace are already built around wheelchair and scooter access, so you can book with confidence knowing exactly what the day looks like.
Our aim is to make sure you know exactly what to expect before your visit, allowing you to enjoy the temples with confidence.
The stairs at Angkor Wat get a lot of attention, but the bigger challenge for wheelchair users is usually the walk to get there in the first place. The main entrance means parking some distance away and covering a lot of ground before you’re anywhere near the temple.
With our specialised local knowledge, we’re able to secure special access that gets you in through the side rather than the main approach, significantly reducing the distance that needs to be covered on foot or by wheelchair.
We’ve taken guests through this way many times, and it makes a visit possible for people who’d otherwise have written Angkor Wat off as too difficult to manage.
Accessible travel often requires a little more planning, and clear communication before your tour can make all the difference.
We’ll discuss your requirements before the day of your tour, help organise any equipment you need, and recommend an itinerary that suits your mobility. Our aim is to make sure you know exactly what to expect, so you can enjoy your visit with confidence.
Because every tour is private, there’s no pressure to keep up with a group. We can take our time, adjust the pace throughout the morning and make the experience as comfortable as possible.
